On Monday, 03/31/25, at approximately 11:30 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop H- Hartford was on scene with a single vehicle accident on I-84 eastbound near exit 56 in East Hartford. The vehicle was disabled and partially obstructing the right travel lane. Due to this, the Trooper was positioned behind the disabled vehicle in the right lane with their emergency lights activated seated in the cruiser. A wrecker was on scene to tow the vehicle, and it was at this time that a passing vehicle failed to slow down and move over. The passing vehicle collided with the Trooper's cruiser, and the Trooper sustained injuries as a result of the accident.
The Trooper sustained minor injuries from the accident, was transported to an area hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery from their injuries. The on-scene investigation determined that the operator of the vehicle which struck the Trooper's cruiser was not under the influence of alcohol/drugs at the time of the accident.
The operator was issued an infraction for violation CGS 14-283b(b(1; Failure to Slow Down/Move Over for Stationary Emergency Vehicle. Both vehicles were later driven from the scene. Please see the attached accident information summary.
