On Thursday, 10/24/24, at approximately 7:15 PM, personnel from Troop D - Danielson were dispatched to Route 6 westbound at its intersection with I-695 in Killingly near the Rhode Island border. Upon arrival, Troopers located a Nissan Altima sedan, disabled and blocking the roadway. The sedan had sustained heavy front-end damage. Troopers also observed that the vehicle was unoccupied and locked. A DMV query of the vehicle registration showed that it was registered to a James Saritelli of Danielson. However, The vehicle registration was expired and its insurance status was unconfirmed.
A K9 unit was dispatched to the scene to conduct a K9 track in an attempt to locate the operator of the vehicle. The CSP K9 tracked with its handler for approximately 1/2 mile through the woods, which led to the discovery of a male running on foot along I-695 eastbound. The male was given verbal commands to stop but refused to comply. The male subsequently jumped down an embankment along the shoulder of I-695, and the K9 was deployed. The male was apprehended by the K9 and subsequently arrested by Troopers. The male was positively identified as James Saritelli (DOB 03/20/68), of Danielson, and he was also identified as the operator of the vehicle. Saritelli was exhibiting signs of impairment upon being taken into custody.
Saritelli was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Upon his discharge, Saritelli was transported to Troop D, where he was processed on the following charges:

CGS 14-213b; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Minimum Insurance
CGS 14-224(b)(3); Evading Responsibility w/Property Damage
CGS 14-227a; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
CGS 14-236; Failure to Maintain Proper Lane
CGS 53a-167a; Interfering with an Officer/Resisting
Saritelli was held on a $2,500 bond and scheduled to appear in Danielson Superior Court on 10/25/24. Please see the attached accident & criminal information summaries.
