In conjunction with DESPP Chief Data Officer Dr. Michael Mascari and DESPP Communications Director Richard Green, below are the year-to-date and Fatal Mitigation Initiative-to-date (March 2024-present) statistics for Speeding (encompassing Traveling Unreasonably Fast CGS 14-218 and Speeding CGS 14-219) and Reckless Driving (CGS 14-222) to compare 2023 and 2024. This data is provided to show year-to-date comparisons, and more importantly, Fatal Mitigation Initiative comparisons to the same period the year before. The most recent data available provides context regarding the momentum of the Initiative. In both cases, the momentum has increased compared to previous months of the Initiative itself.
Speeding Charges Year To Date (Jan-Oct)
From January to October 2024, Connecticut State Police issued 19,607 tickets for speeding, representing an estimated increase of 229 tickets compared to the same period in 2023.
Speeding Charges (Mar-Oct)
From March to October 2024, Connecticut State Police issued 16,943 tickets for speeding, representing an estimated increase of 948 tickets compared to the same period in 2023.

From November 1st 2024 to November 19th 2024, Connecticut State Police issued 1908 tickets, representing an estimated increase of 881 tickets compared to all of November 2023.
Reckless Driving Charges Year To Date (Jan-Oct)
