Griswold Woman Arrested for OUI, Driving Wrong Way on I-395 in Montville

Writer: csp.piocsp.pio

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 2:30 AM, Troop E dispatch center began receiving multiple 911 calls of a wrong-way driver traveling south in the northbound lanes of I-395 in the area of exit 11 in Norwich. The vehicle was reported to be travelling at a high rate of speed the wrong way.

Troopers located the vehicle, a 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan, as it was approaching the Troop E barracks in Montville. As Troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, it turned into the Troop E parking lot and attempted to evade them. Troopers intentionally collided their cruisers into the evading vehicle in order to prevent it from getting back on the highway the wrong way. No injuries were reported to any State Police personnel or to the operator of the Tiguan.

Once the vehicle was contained, Troopers physically removed the female operator after she failed to comply with verbal commands to exit the vehicle. The female, identified as Cailin Sorder, (DOB 01/15/1991) of Griswold, showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest.

Sorder was escorted inside Troop E for processing where she was charged with the following:

C.G.S. 14-227a - Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs

C.G.S. 14-237 - Driving the wrong Way on a Limited Access Highway

C.G.S. 14-223(b)** - Engaging Police in a Pursuit

C.G.S. 53a-167a - Interfering with an Officer

C.G.S. 53a-63 - Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree

Sorder was held on a $50,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwich Superior Court on 03/24/2025.

A witness who was nearly struck by Sorder's vehicle on I-395 provided dash camera footage to Troop E personnel following this incident. Additionally, cruiser camera footage of the forced stop in the Troop E parking lot was also obtained. Both are included below.
