Massachusetts Duo Arrested for Car Breaks in Mansfield

On Wednesday, 11/06/2024, at approximately 2:47 AM, Troopers assigned to Troop C- Tolland were dispatched to the area of Warren Circle in Mansfield following reports of a male and female breaking into vehicles. The suspects were reported to be driving a dark-colored SUV and were seen leaving the area.

As a responding Trooper entered the cul-de-sac of Warren Circle, they observed a dark-colored Volkswagen SUV with Massachusetts plates, occupied by two individuals, leaving the area of Warren Circle. In response, the Trooper turned around, positioned their cruiser behind the vehicle and activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop for investigative purposes. The operator complied and pulled over on Route 275 in the area of Westwood Road.

After safely stopping the vehicle, the Trooper approached the dark-colored Volkswagen SUV and made contact with the male driver, Joseph T. Walker (DOB: 07/21/1990), of Worcester, MA, and the female passenger, Jada Disire Williams (DOB: 03/03/2000), also of Worcester, MA. When questioned about their presence in the area, both occupants stated they were unfamiliar with the location and were seeking directions. They further explained that Williams' family member lived nearby and that they were on their way back to Worcester. During their interaction, the Trooper noticed a large pickaxe in the back seat, along with several jackets and two purses—one in the back seat and one in the front seat area.

Another Trooper who responded to the scene was canvassing the area when he discovered a Honda Accord with a smashed window that appeared to have been rummaged through. Additionally, the investigating Trooper recognized Walker and Williams from a previous larceny investigation in Tolland the week before. The pair matched the description of two suspects involved in the theft of a purse from a vehicle and a credit card from the purse had been used for purchases at a local gas station in Tolland following the theft.

Based on this information, the Trooper instructed both occupants to exit the vehicle and they were subsequently detained in handcuffs as the investigation continued. The Trooper established probable cause to search the vehicle, where multiple purses containing ID cards not belonging to either occupant were found.

At this time, both Walker and Williams were informed that they were under arrest. A search incident to the arrest of Walker's person revealed he was in possession of the stolen credit card from the Tolland incident.

A witness, who was also the caller reporting the incident, told Troopers that she was working at a facility in the area when she looked out the window and saw a dark-colored SUV driving the wrong way through the Mansfield cul-de-sac. She watched as the vehicle parked on the road and shortly after, she heard a loud noise from outside. She then saw a male and female rummaging through a Honda Accord which she recognized as her coworker's vehicle. After notifying her coworker about what she had observed, she returned to the window and saw the suspects driving away. She immediately called 911 to report the incident. The owner of the Honda later provided Troopers with a list of items that were missing from her vehicle.

Both Walker and Williams were transported to Troop C and both were separately charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 53a-106; Possession of Burglar Tools

C.G.S. 53a-116; Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree

C.G.S. 53a-125; Larceny 4th Degree

C.G.S. 53a-129d; Identity Theft 3rd Degree

Both Walker and Williams were each assigned a $150,000 bond, which they were unable to post. Both are scheduled for arraignment at Rockville Superior Court on 11/06/2024.

The larceny which occurred in Tolland remains under investigation.
