On 09/10/2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Troopers assigned to Troop H in Hartford were conducting proactive motor vehicle enforcement on I-84 westbound in the area of Exit 58 in East Hartford and observed two motorcycles traveling at a high rate of speed. Troopers determined that the motorcycles were traveling at speeds of 90 MPH and above and initiated a motor vehicle stop. In response, the two motorcycles accelerated in an apparent effort to flee.
A Trooper was able to observe the Connecticut registration plate displayed on one of the two motorcycles, later identified as a red BMW touring-style motorcycle, registered to an address in the town of Farmington. At this time, the Trooper determined that the fleeing motorcycle had accelerated to speeds in excess of 124 MPH. Due to the potential safety risk to the motorcycle operator and other nearby motorists, the Trooper terminated efforts to stop the motorcycle.
During the investigation that followed, Troopers traveled to the address of the BMW motorcycle’s registered owner in Farmington. As Troopers were speaking with a resident at the address, a red BMW motorcycle and its operator, positively identified as Dalton Veiga, DOB 07/10/2002, of Farmington, entered the driveway of the residence.
Troopers observed that the registration plate, the motorcycle, and the physical appearance of Veiga were consistent with the registration, motorcycle and operator who had fled from Troopers earlier.
Based upon these observations, Dalton Veiga was taken into custody and transported to Troop H in Hartford, where he was processed and charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 14-222, Reckless Driving
C.G.S. 14-223(a), Disobeying the Signal of an Officer
C.G.S. 14-40a(a)*, Operating a Motorcycle Without Endorsement
Veiga was later released on a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled for arraignment on 09/27/2024 at Manchester Superior Court.
