On January 28, 2025, at approximately 5:28 PM, A Trooper from Troop E - Montville observed a black Honda Accord driving south on I-395 in the area of Exit 6. The Trooper observed the Honda driving in the left lane of two, directly behind their cruiser. The Trooper then observed the vehicle merge into the right lane, passing their cruiser and another vehicle on the right, before merging back into the left lane.
Based on the violation observed, the Trooper conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle prior to exit 5. The Trooper made contact with the Operator, who was positively identified as Emily Campos-Sanchez (DOB 04/25/2005) of Norwich. The Trooper could detect a strong odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle, as well as a cloud of smoke coming out of the window once it was rolled down. While speaking with Campos-Sanchez, the Trooper observed signs of impairment and requested she submit to the Standarized Field Sobriety Tests. Campos-Sanchez complied, ultimately failing to perform the tests to standard.
Due to the on-scene investigation, to include Campos-Sanchez's admission to consuming marijuana prior to driving, she was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. A search of the vehicle incident to arrest revealed both marijuana and alcohol. Furthermore, it was discovered that Campos-Sanchez did not have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle. Campos-Sanchez was transported without incident to Troop E for processing.
Campos-Sanchez was processed and charged with the following:
C.G.S. 14-227a - Operating Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol
C.G.S. 14-233 - Passing on the Right
C.G.S 14-36(a) - Operating a Motor Vehicle without a License
C.G.S. 21a-279a(c1A) - Possession of Marijuana by a Minor
C.G.S. 30-89(b)(1) - Possession of Alcohol by a Minor
Campos-Sanchez was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Norwich Superior Court on 02/11/2025.
