OIS Investigation underway in West Haven

On 09/19/2024 at approximately 1700 hours, the New Haven Violent Crime Task Force was conducting an investigation at 2 Boston Post Road in West Haven. During the course of the investigation the suspect displayed a firearm. A Connecticut State Police Sergeant and a New Haven Police officer discharged their weapons, causing injury to the suspect. 


The scene has been secured, and there is no active threat to the public at this time.


The Office of the Inspector General has been notified and has assumed the investigation. The New Haven States Attorney responded to the scene and is assisting. Detectives from the Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene to assist the Inspector General's Office with scene processing.


No injuries have been reported amongst law enforcement personnel.


This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and this is all of the information available for release at this time. Further inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the Inspector General's Office.


Update- per CSP policy & procedure, Sgt. Colin Richter has been placed on administrative duty pending the Inspector General's investigation. The Connecticut State Police has and continues to fully cooperate with the Inspector General's Office.
