On February 20, 2025, at approximately 10:54 PM, Troopers from Troop H - Hartford observed a black Infiniti Qx60 cutting between the left and center lanes of travel to advance through heavy traffic on I-84 west in Farmington. Upon obtaining a break in traffic, the vehicle accelerated at a high rate of speed and veered into the right lane. The Trooper then positioned his cruiser behind the Qx60 and clocked the vehicles speed to be in excess of 116 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

Based on the violations observed, a traffic stop was conducted on I-84 west in the area of exit 35 in New Britain. The operator was identified as Thomas Eldridge (DOB 12/26/1991) of New Britain, explained that he knew he was speeding, thinking he was driving around 90 mph.

Eldridge further explained that the vehicle was unregistered, uninsured, and the registration plate on the rear of the vehicle belonged to a previous vehicle he owned. Eldridge exited the vehicle and was arrested without incident. Eldridge was then transported to Troop H for processing.

Eldridge was charged with the following:

C.G.S. 14-222 - Reckless Driving

C.G.S. 14-236 - Failure to Maintain Lane

C.G.S. 14-213b - Operating a Motor Vehicle without Minimum Insurance

C.G.S. 14-12(a) - Failure to Renew Registration

C.G.S. 14-147(c) - Improper Use of Registration Plate

Eldridge was later released on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on 03/03/2025.
