Stamford Man Arrested for DUI; Reckless Driving on I-95 in Darien

On Thursday, 11/14/24 at approximately 10:53 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop G- Bridgeport was on patrol preparing to turn left onto I-95 southbound from the exit 14 ramp in Norwalk. It was at this time that the Trooper observed a white Dodge Challenger traveling ahead of them which had made an aggressive left hand turn onto I-95 southbound. The Trooper further observed the vehicle accelerating at such a rapid rate that the rapport of its engine was audibly loud.

The Trooper continued to merge onto I-95 southbound to further observe the vehicle's operation. While doing so, the Trooper observed the vehicle failing to maintain its lane, to include erratic over-corrective steering. The Trooper began to clock the vehicle's speed by calibrated speedometer, and initially observed the vehicle traveling at 74 mph in a posted 55 mph zone upon positioning their cruiser behind the Challenger. Immediately thereafter, the Trooper observed the Challenger continue to accelerate and began to clock the vehicle's speed at 101 mph. It was at this time that the Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The Trooper observed the Challenger reach speeds up to 109 mph prior to the operator drastically reduce speed and pull over to the right shoulder prior to exit 13 in Darien.

Once safely stopped, the Trooper made contact with the operator, who was positively identified as Robert Fabrizio (DOB 06/07/97), of Stamford. The Trooper began to observe signs of impairment, to include the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from within the vehicle, watery eyes and slow speech. Based upon these observations, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing was administered. Fabrizio failed to perform testing to standard was subsequently arrested without incident.

Fabrizio was transported to Troop G, where he was processed for the following charges:

CGS 14-222; Reckless Driving

CGS 14-227a; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs

Fabrizio was later released from custody on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on 12/02/24. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
