Stolen Vehicle Crashes in Stafford; Two Juveniles Arrested

On Tuesday 07/30/24 at approximately 7:00 AM, Troop C- Tolland was contacted by the Willimantic Police Department and advised that a 2019 Jeep Compass, reported stolen from Main St. in Willimantic, was last seen heading north on Route 32 toward Mansfield.

Troopers observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Route 32 through Mansfield and into Willington, at which point a Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop north of the intersection of Route 32 and Route 74. Due to the excessive speed at which the vehicle was traveling, and in the interest of public safety, the Trooper terminated attempts to stop the vehicle.

A short time later, another Trooper observed the same vehicle continuing northbound on RT 32 traveling towards Stafford. Before the Trooper could catch up to the vehicle to initiate a second attempt at a traffic stop, the vehicle had collided head-on with another vehicle, which was traveling south on Route 32. Both occupants of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee on foot and were apprehended shortly thereafter. All parties involved in the accident sustained minor injuries and were transported for medical treatment.

During the course of the investigation, it was learned that both occupants of the stolen vehicle were juveniles. Each of the juveniles were issued a juvenile summons and are scheduled to appear at Willimantic and New Haven Juvenile Court, respectively, on 08/06/24. The Willimantic Police Department was notified that the vehicle reported stolen had been located.
