On Friday, 11/22/24 at approximately 7:42 AM, personnel from Troop H- Hartford were dispatched to I-91 northbound in the area of exit 24 in Wethersfield for an active tractor trailer fire. The cab of the tractor trailer was reportedly fully engulfed, and the contents of its trailer contained 7,500 gallons of fuel. The operator made their way out of the vehicle to safety and sustained no injuries.
Wethersfield and Rocky Hill Fire Departments responded to the scene to extinguish the fire, and Troopers quickly shut down the highway for safety. This closure included I-91 northbound, southbound and oncoming traffic from Route 3 to I-91 southbound. Given the trailer's hazardous contents, Troopers worked quickly to clear surrounding motorists from the area. Working in conjunction with fire officials on scene, Troopers reopened I-91 southbound shortly after fire crews extinguished the active fire. DEEP and DOT were advised of the incident and later responded to the scene. The left two lanes of I-91 northbound have also been reopened, and the scene remains active at the time of this posting. CSP Fire & Explosives Investigation Unit (FEIU) is also responding to assist with the investigation. CFS #2400443514.
UPDATE: I-91 is completely re-opened as of 11:26 AM.
