On Sunday, December 22, 2024, at approximately 5:38 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop H was conducting speed enforcement as part of the Aggressive Driving/Fatal Accident Mitigation Initiative on I-91 northbound in the area of exit 13 in the town of Wallingford.
While monitoring traffic, the Trooper observed a red Hyundai Santa Fe in the left lane traveling much faster than the normal flow of traffic. Utilizing a speed laser, the Trooper obtained the speed of the Hyundai at 119 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone.
The Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, and the vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder adjacent to the Wallingford Rest Area.
Once safely stopped, the Trooper spoke with the driver who was identified as Evan Waycott (DOB 03/03/2000) of Wallingford. Waycott was subsequently arrested and transported to Troop I in Bethany for processing.
Waycott was charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 14-222 - Reckless Driving
C.G.S. 14-232(a)(1) - Improper Passing at an Unsafe Distance
Waycott was released on a $500 bond, awaiting a court date of January 13, 2025 at Meriden Superior Court.
