On Friday November 29, 2024, at approximately 7:47 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop I - Bethany, was conducting speed enforcement on I-91 north, in Wallingford. The Trooper observed a gray Hyundai driving much faster than the posted speed limit, and obtained the vehicles speed by laser at 98 mph.
As the Trooper followed the vehicle, they obtained the registration plate, and activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop. The Hyundai failed to stop and accelerated to 122mph. The vehicle also began using all lanes weaving in and out of traffic nearly striking other vehicles.
In the interest of public safety, the Trooper deactivated their lights and siren. The Trooper then arrived at the registered owners address in Waterbury, where the vehicle was located. The vehicle however had a FL registration plate on it at this time, which was confirmed to not belong on the vehicle.
Troopers made contact with Kendrick Amaker (DOB 05/25/1971) who admitted to Troopers that he was driving the vehicle, and once he returned home he changed the registration plate in an attempt to not be located.
Amaker was placed under arrested and charged with the following:
C.G.S. 14-222 - Reckless Driving
C.G.S. 14-215 - Operating Under Suspension
C.G.S. 14-223(b)** - Engaging Police in Pursuit
C.G.S. 53a-167a - Interfering with Officer
Amaker was processed at Troop I where he was held on a $20,000 Cash / Surety Bond awaiting a court date of 12/02/2024 at Meriden Superior Court.
