Wrong Way Driver Crashes on Route 15 in Hamden, Leads to DUI Arrest

On Monday, December 2, 2024, at approximately 11:15 PM, Troop I in Bethany received notification of a wrong-way detection alert at the Route 15 southbound exit 60 off-ramp in Hamden showing a silver Infiniti sedan driving in the wrong direction.

Troopers quickly responded to the area and discovered that an Infiniti had crashed into the guardrail on the off-ramp, sustaining significant front-end damage that left the vehicle disabled. Upon arrival, Troopers found an adult male standing outside the vehicle, who was identified as the driver and reported no injuries.

The driver, identified as Travis Lamont Williams (DOB: 12/13/1992), of Stamford, displayed signs of impairment. While speaking with Williams, Troopers detected a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and observed his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. Williams admitted to consuming alcohol before the collision. Based on these observations, Troopers asked Williams to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Williams agreed but failed to perform the tests to standard. As a result, he was arrested and transported to Troop I for processing, where he was charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 14-227a - Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs

C.G.S. 14-236 - Failure to Drive in Proper Lane

C.G.S. 14-237 - Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway

C.G.S. 53a-64 - Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree

Williams was later released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Meriden Superior Court on 12/20/2024.
